Pasadena Audubon has a robust grants program primarily focused on providing support to students (both undergraduate and graduate) and community organizations for important research related to birds, birding and conservation. We also provide travel/conference scholarships for young or early career birders to attend conferences and birding camps to enhance their birding knowledge and skills. Program specifics are outlined below.

Grant application requests should not exceed $5,000. Travel/Conference scholarship application requests should not exceed $500.

The next deadline for applications is March 15, 2025.

Application process

Research grants

Apply for a Pasadena Audubon research grant by filling out this form. (NOTE: To submit the form you must be logged into a google.com account.)

Funding is available to support grants including both scientific research and community based projects. We're most interested in grant proposals that are relevant to Southern California and/or the Pacific Flyway. Grant requests must be submitted by March 15, 2025 and applicants will be notified by April 1, 2025.

Applicants that have previously received a PAS grant must provide a final report for the previous project before submitting a new grant application, or submit as an appendix with the new application.

Each application must contain the following information:

  • Name, contact, etc.
  • How you heard about the PAS Grant Program
  • A very brief statement of the proposed request using non-technical terms (less than 200 words)
  • A detailed description of the request. This must include each of the following items:
    1. Why the project was chosen and its significance (1 page limit)
    2. A description of what the applicant has already achieved toward this goal, if anything (1 page limit)
    3. The specific request (2 page limit)
    4. A budget statement indicating how the funds would be spent and a justification of these expenditures. (2 page limit). If PAS is being asked to provide partial funds for the grant project, a list of other organizations that have already provided funds as well as organizations that are currently being solicited should be included. A proposal for what the grantee will do in case all of the needed funds to complete the project are not obtained should also be included.
    5. A resume of the individual applicant or applicant organization clearly indicating the specific individual that is to be held accountable for the proper expenditure of the funds (1 page limit).
    6. An appendix for other relevant materials that may or may not be considered by the Board.

Travel / conference scholarship grants

Funding is available to support $500 travel or conference scholarships for young birders or college students starting their birding careers. Grant requests must be submitted by March 15, 2025 and applicants will be notified by April 1, 2025.

Each application must contain the following information:

  • Name, contact, etc.
  • Purpose of scholarship
  • Travel/conference plans, dates, etc.
  • Requested amount
